Notable
- Was rated Outstanding in 2019 but dropped to Good at its next inspection in March 2023 — one of the few UTCs to fall from the top grade rather than climb into it.
- Sits in west Cumbria's nuclear and energy corridor and partners directly with Sellafield Ltd and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority alongside civil engineering firm Morgan Sindall Infrastructure.
- In September 2015 the school briefly closed after a suspected viral outbreak among pupils; investigations later concluded it was a psychogenic (stress-related) illness rather than an actual virus.
