Notable
- Rated Outstanding across every category at its first full inspection in March 2020, becoming (by its own and press accounts) only around the sixth school in England to achieve the top grade under the framework introduced that year
- Its May 2025 re-inspection was widely reported as 'retaining Outstanding status,' with quality of education graded Outstanding; note that since September 2024 Ofsted no longer issues a single overall effectiveness grade for state schools, so this is based on published category grades and Ofsted's own characterisation rather than a like-for-like repeat of the 2020 judgement
- Named after Sir Ron Dearing, the Hull-born civil servant behind the Dearing Reports on higher and post-16 education
- Acquired a disused fire station in 2022 and converted it into 'STEAM Studios,' which opened in September 2023 and helped expand capacity from 600 to 800 places
- Runs an on-site Combined Cadet Force contingent, unusual for a UTC
